Atlanta Braves vs Cincinnati Reds

MLB: 6:30 PM EST

April 23, 2018

The Atlanta Braves will travel to Great American Ballpark to take on the MLB-worst Cincinnati Reds in a series-opening clash on Monday night.

Taking the hill for the Bravos will be Brandon McCarthy (3-0, 2.91 ERA), who has gotten out to a spectacular start to the 2018 campaign, as his numbers indicate. The Redlegs will throw Sal Romano (0-2, 5.75 ERA), a right-hander who has scuffled at the outset of his sophomore season.

The Reds have been the worst team in baseball thus far in the season, posting a dismal 3-18 record. The Braves, meanwhile, are sitting in the thick of the NL East race, with 12 wins in their first 20 games.

Featuring an abnormally high BABIP of .317, good for 2nd in the MLB, the Braves have been both good and lucky offensively thus far in the season. Second baseman Ozzie Albies has been a standout swinging the bat, hitting .302 at the top of the lineup before one of the most dangerous batters in the league in Freddie Freeman.

The Braves just have too many weapons to bet against when compared to a horrible Cincinnati team. Of course, there’s always the possibility that the Reds choose Monday night to snap their skid of below-average play, but all the numbers suggest that Atlanta will open their road trip with a W.
