Chicago Cubs vs Cincinnati Reds

MLB: 01.10 PM EST

May 20, 2018

The Cubs finished Saturday’s split doubleheader in style on Saturday, blanking the Cincinnati Reds 10-0 in the nightcap. The day opened with a 5-4 Cincinnati win in extra innings, via a walkoff bases loaded free pass to force in the winning run.

Sunday’s series finale will feature beleaguered offseason acquisition Yu Darvish (0-3, 5.56 ERA) on the mound for Chicago. Darvish will be making his second start since returning from the disabled list with the flu earlier this month, and he showed encouraging signs in his most recent outing of returning to the form that garnered a $126 million contract prior to the season. RHP Tyler Mahle (3-5, 4.34 ERA) will oppose Darvish on the hill for the Reds.

Oddsmakers are tentative to make the Cubs heavy favorites in this one, as Darvish has struggled mightily in the first two months of his Cubs tenure. But baseball is a game of regression to the mean, and I’m looking for a strong run of Cubs offense to anchor Darvish to his best outing yet on the North Side.
