Chicago Cubs vs Colorado Rockies
MLB: 8:10 PM EST
April 21, 2018
The Chicago Cubs will be looking to shake off a sluggish start to the 2018 season and ride their recent offensive success to their first three-game winning streak of the year, as they will square off with the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night in Denver.
The pitching matchup will feature major offseason acquisition Yu Darvish (0-1, 6.00 ERA) for the North Siders). Darvish has not been particularly impressive in the early going with his new team, struggling at times with his command and not working deep in games. Tyler Anderson (0-0, 4.74 ERA) will take the hill for the Rox.
The Cubs jumped all over Rockies pitching on Friday night, en route to a season-high 16 runs. This had the added benefit of forcing Rockies relievers to throw a lot of pitches; 92 of them in 4 innings of relief. Chicago’s big bullpen arms were saved as the game was out of hand in the late innings.
Joe Maddon’s team has been generating a lot of traffic on the basepaths in recent games (averaging 8+ runs a game over their last 4 contests) and hitter-friendly Coors Field is an ideal place for that production to continue. Albert Almora has been a revelation at the top of the lineup, hitting over .300 taking over the leadoff hole for the struggling Ian Happ. If Yu Darvish can settle down and throw strikes early, and manage his pitch count effectively, the Cubs’ offense is more than capable of giving him plenty of run support to work with in Colorado.
