Chicago Cubs vs Milwaukee Brewers

MLB: 08.10 PM EST

September 5, 2018

The Milwaukee Brewers (79-61; 2nd in NL Central) pounded the division-leading Chicago Cubs (81-57; 1st in NL Central) in an 11-1 win on Tuesday night, capitalizing on perhaps the worst pitching and defense performance of the year from Joe Maddon’s team. They’ll go for the sweep on Wednesday night in front of a raucous Miller Park crowd.

STARTING PITCHERS: Chicago LHP Jose Quintana (11-9, 4.21 ERA) vs. Milwaukee LHP Jhoulys Chacin (14-5, 3.53 ERA)

Quintana has hit his stride after the All-Star Break, allowing just four runs total in his last three starts. He enjoys facing the Brewers, pitching to a 4-2 record with a 1.67 ERA against them in his career. He’ll be faced by Chacin, another lefty that has traditionally had success against the opposition. The de facto Brewers ace engineered a shutout of the Cubs at Wrigley Field in this same pitching matchup in early August.

Both teams are intimately familiar with the opposing starting pitcher on Wednesday night, and neither offense has really managed to find much success against this pair of lefties despite that familiarity. Look for Joe Maddon to right the ship with a defense that made a lot of mistakes a night ago, and settle in behind the resurgent Quintana in what might turn into a pitchers’ duel in the final game of this series.
