Chicago Cubs vs Atlanta Braves

MLB: 7.35 PM EST

May 16, 2018

The Chicago Cubs didn’t play particularly well in their season opener at SunTrust Park, but managed a come from behind win in the 9th inning to defeat the Atlanta Braves in a 3-2 final.

Atlanta was victimized by a pair of 5th inning calls that didn’t go their way, resulting in at least one run (potentially more) coming off the board for them. Then, with a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame, closer Arodys Vizcaino allowed three solid hits and took the loss, just a half inning after Ronald Acuna Jr. had given the Bravos the lead.

Wednesday’s matchup features two vastly different pitchers. RHP Tyler Chatwood will go for the Cubbies, who has had control issues (averaging nearly one walk per inning), but has made up for it with a healthy strikeout clip. Meanwhile, Atlanta right-hander Brandon McCarthy will start for the home side, who after starting the season 4-0, has seen his ERA balloon over to full runs to five and a half. The Cubs didn’t feature much offense on Tuesday night, and I like them to reverse that trend in the middle game of the series, against a guy who isn’t likely to victimize them with heavy strikeout numbers.
