Colorado Rockies vs San Diego Padres

MLB: 3.40 PM EST

May 15, 2018

German Marquez will take the mound for the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday in an afternoon tilt at Petco Park in San Diego. The Padres will start right-hander Jordan Lyles against the Rox, a day after Colorado triumphed 6-4 in the series opener.

Marquez has struggled thus far in the year, pitching to a 2-4, 5.35 ERA statline. His 1.68 WHIP really jumps off the page, well above the typical average of around 1.30 for MLB pitchers. Lyles, meanwhile, will be making just his second start of the year, after his first 13 appearances were out of the bullpen. He took the loss against St. Louis in his first start, despite pitching reasonably well and allowing just one earned run in five innings of work.

Even though offensive weapon DJ Lemahieu will be out for Colorado, the unproven pitching on each side is enough for me to want to back the over on a relatively low total set by oddsmakers. Let’s hope the pitching is as mediocre as advertised and some runs are scored early in the San Diego sun.
