GWS Giants vs Fremantle Dockers

April 14, 2018

The Giants are in snooze town right now as they find their way with some new exciting players. After all, Grand Finals are not one in Round 2 anyways! Finlayson has been dominant in only his 3rd game, Tarantula Toranto is stepping up to the plate and Coniglio is going as hard as ever and really impressing through the midfield. The loss last weekend to the Swans was admirable especially considering Toby Greene was not playing. They are all class!

Fremantle are another team with lots of new exciting talent. The likes of Brayshaw, Cerra & Banfield are being extremely well lead by Captain Fyfe who is back to his brilliant best. They were challenged last week by the Suns but dug in deep, there is a lot to like about where Freo are Ho-ing right now but they will still need time to develop their younger crop of players.

In years gone by, Ross Lyons teams have been renowned for being defensive beasts and shutting down the opposition and creating boring games. But the game has evolved and you can’t really attempt this against the Giants, well you can, but Good Luck trying. Fremantle tried this in Round 1 against Port but failed dismally. Port and the Giants have similar hard-bodied midfields so Freo will need to work hard at winning the contested ball & win hard around the stoppages if they are to be in with a show.

The Giants are massive favourites for this one and so they should be. Canberra is a bit of a fortress for them as they haven’t lost a game at the ground in over 2 years. Freo have only ever played at the ground once, and that wasn’t even against the Giants when the lost to North many moons ago!

The only thing stopping the Giants winning this one will be themselves. Fremantle are still developing & should be no match for the Giants. We just can’t see the Giants losing 2 in a row, especially at Canberra.
