Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Diego Padres

MLB: 10.10 PM EST

July 11, 2018

The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to chase the Arizona Diamondbacks for the first-place spot in the NL West, and they didn’t help their cause on Tuesday night, falling 4-1 against divisional opponent San Diego. Los Angeles was only saved from a shutout by a Max Muncy home run with two outs in the ninth inning; an uncommon occurrence for an offense that has been immensely productive over the past six weeks.

STARTING PITCHERS: Los Angeles RHP Kenta Maeda (5-5, 3.24 ERA) vs. San Diego LHP Joey Lucchesi (4-4, 3.27 ERA)

Two starters with very similar numbers will take the hill on Wednesday night. Maeda is fresh off a solid outing against the rival Angels over the weekend, in which he allowed just one run in five and two thirds innings. The Padres rookie southpaw Lucchesi will be making his second career start against the Dodgers; in the first, he gave up three runs in a loss in which San Diego was no-hit.

After a rocky start to 2018, the Los Angeles offense has rounded into form in the summer months, and it seems rather unlikely that a fairly clandestine San Diego pitching staff will be able to completely stifle the Dodgers two nights in a row. I’m taking LA.
