Melbourne Demons vs Richmond Tigers

AFL: 7.25 PM AEST

April 24, 2018

HOME TEAM

So many expectations have been heaped upon Simon Goodwin and his men and rightly so, as this is the year that the Demons are meant to entrench themselves in the top 8 (even the top 4 some may say). Which is why plenty were disheartened in their efforts last week against the Hawks, where they could only muster 1 more goal after quarter time and were belted by the tune of 67 points. Match review on Monday morning would have been icier then Max Gawn having a set shot at goal 20m directly in front. How Melbourne responds this week is key and will go a long way in telling us whether they are fair dinkum or just making up the numbers.

AWAY TEAM

The Tigers are in cruise control at the moment and are taking care of the matches they are meant to be winning, like a top team should. If it wasn’t for one little mishap over in Adelaide, the reigning premiers would be a perfect 4-0 to start the season. In saying that the Tigers will need to be on their guard this week as recent history shows they don’t fare so well against the Demons. Going down in two of their last 5 matches to them, with their last win being a come from behind win after trailing by 20 points at 3 quarter time.

ANALYSIS

The heat will be on in this game and if The Demons are worth their weight in salt will want to come out of the blocks and prove a point. Melbourne has outscored their opponent in the first quarter in 3 of their first 4 matches, whilst the Tigers are going at a 50% rate themselves in this statistic. Continuing on further with this Melbourne has outscored The Tigers in the first quarter in 3 of their last 4 matchups. If there was ever a week where Melbourne needed to start well after a complete collapse out on the field from the week before, it has to be this week against the reigning premiers.

THE ODDS

OUR VERDICT

After being scrutinised from pillar to post the whole week by the media and being dubbed as “pretenders”, we feel if Melbourne can’t show up for this one then all the murmurings about there being internal issues at the club may be more fact then fiction.
