Miami Heat vs Philadelphia 76ers
NBA: 8:00 PM EST
April 14, 2018
As the 3 seed versus 6 seed series kicks off, “The Process” will be finally revealed. The Miami Heat travel to Philadelphia and take on the hottest team in the East, the 76ers.
The 76ers look like they will be taking on the Heat without star big man Joel Embiid, at least for Game 1. Even without Embiid, the Sixers have fared better than just “made do”, winning their previous 16 games, including a thrashing of the 7-seed Milwaukee Bucks (130-95) to end the regular season. In the absence of Embiid, the Sixers are led by Rookie of The Year hopeful Ben Simmons, who is teetering on the edge of a triple-double-average with 15.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.2 assists.
The Miami Heat are led by Center Hassan Whiteside, who is averaging a double-double with 14 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. The Heat, to the surprise of many, has played well after losing Dion Waiters to an ankle injury in the middle of the season. They enter the playoffs winning 5 of their last 8, including a dismantling of the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 27. The 76ers have been peaking at the right time and shouldn’t have too much trouble with the Heat. The thing that the Heat have going for them is the ability to control the tempo and play excellent on and off-ball defence.
Being at home in their first playoff appearance since the 2011-2012 season and riding a 16 game win streak, expect the 76ers come out hot and firing. Give me Philly -6.5.
