Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals

MLB: 08.15 PM EST

September 24, 2018

The St. Louis Cardinals () will play host to the Milwaukee Brewers () for an important three-game series in determining the National League playoff landscape. These teams currently hold both of the NL Wild Card spots, with the Brewers maintaining a slender two-game lead for home-field advantage in the potential one-game playoff.

STARTING PITCHERS: Milwaukee N/A vs. St. Louis RHP Jack Flaherty (8-8, 3.08 ERA)

Right-hander Chase Anderson was scheduled to make the start for Milwaukee, but he was scratched from tonight’s game shortly after Milwaukee’s 13-6 win in the rubber match of their series against Pittsburgh. All signs point toward the Brewers having a “bullpen game”, in which many pitchers are expected to contribute a short amount of work. There’s no word from Milwaukee officials on who will get the ball in the first inning. Jack Flaherty will start for the Redbirds, and the rookie sensation has been dominant against the divisional rival Brewers in 2018. In three starts, he’s 1-0 with an ERA of just 1.00, and 29 punchouts over just 18 innings of work.

Milwaukee made the late-night trip from PNC Park over the weekend to St. Louis, while the Cardinals had no travel arrangements after completing a series at Busch Stadium against San Francisco. This is an important game for Mike Shildt’s team to win if they want any hope of hosting a potential Wild Card game, and the starting pitching matchup seems conducive to a St. Louis win based on Flaherty’s record against the Brew Crew in 2018.
