2018 MLB All-Star Gane
MLB: 07.30 PM EST
July 17, 2018
The 89th MLB All-Star Game will take place in the nation’s capital of Washington, D.C. on Tuesday night, 24 hours removed from one of the most exciting Home Run Derby contests in recent memory. The 2018 edition will be only the second All-Star Game since last year’s rule change to no longer award the winning league home field advantage in the World Series.
STARTING PITCHERS: NL RHP Max Scherzer (12-5, 2.41 ERA) vs. AL LHP Chris Sale (10-4, 2.23 ERA)
As expected, the All-Star Game starters will be two of the most dominant pitchers in all of baseball. Scherzer, the two-time reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, will start in front of his home fans at Nationals Park. He will be opposed by Chris Sale, who’s making his seventh straight All-Star Game appearance for the American League.
July’s clash of the two All-Star teams is rarely predictable given the nature of baseball, so finding an edge for Tuesday’s contest is somewhat challenging (the AL is a slight favorite to win the ballgame). So, I’m playing a hunch and backing an over that seems a tad low, despite the enormous ability shared between the two pitching staffs. I’m hoping that a starting pitcher or two that will inevitably come out of the bullpen for either side will pitch uncharacteristically poorly in an unfamiliar role, and certainly both offenses have plenty of offensive talent to capitalize on that.
