New York Mets vs Chicago Cubs

August 28, 2018
The Chicago Cubs (77-53; 1st in NL Central) held on to defeat the New York Mets (58-73; 4th in NL East) on Monday night by a final of 7-4 for their sixth consecutive victory. A late solo HR by Anthony Rizzo gave us a bad half-run beat on our premium tip yesterday, but we’ll head back out to the north side of Chicago for betting value on Tuesday night.
STARTING PITCHERS: New York RHP Jacob deGrom (8-8, 1.71 ERA) vs. Chicago LHP Cole Hamels (4-0, 0.79 ERA)
Two of the hottest pitchers in the National League will square off the in the second consecutive dandy pitching matchup of this series. DeGrom is a legitimate candidate for the NL Cy Young, pitching to easily the best ERA in the league thus far, but suffering in his record from a lack of team success. Cole Hamels, meanwhile, has been the de facto ace for Chicago since being acquired from Texas at the trade deadline. The Cubs have won each of his five starts, including a complete-game gem last time out against Cincinnati.
We were victimized a night ago by playing the under on a hot summer night at Wrigley Field with the wind blowing out, but I see value going back to the well against for the middle game of this series. DeGrom did face the Cubs earlier in 2018 and allowed just a run in 7 innings pitched, and Cole Hamels has been nothing short of lights out in his brief tenure wearing the Cubbie blue. I expect these pitchers to be the storyline of Tuesday’s contest, and will take the under for the second straight night.
