North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Carlton Blues
AFL: 7.25 PM AEST
April 14, 2018
North Melbourne are re-building with confidence this year & are sitting OK at 1 win and 2 losses. If they can overcome Carlton this week it will go a long way for the boys’ confidence especially considering most of the football world were picking them to win the wooden spoon this season.
Carlton is winless this season after a very impressive Round 1 performance against the Tigers it has only been downhill from there. They are desperate for a win and will get their opportunity against a youthful North Melbourne side. This is the very first time that Carlton has ever played in Tasmania against the Roos at Blundstone Arena which is a bit of a disadvantage.
North have had the upper hand over Carlton in recent years and this year are the 2nd highest tackling team in the competition. Carlton interestingly enough have won 2 final quarters out of their 3 games but haven’t been able to come home with the chocolates. Carlton are a high disposal team and average more clearances out of the middle compared to North Melbourne, but North have dominance with their tackle pressure and contested possessions lead by Ben Cunnington, Trent Dumont and Shaun Higgins. This should be a tough encounter.
North are the Favourites but not overwhelmingly and when you look at the 2 teams statistics in comparison for 2018, it is not hard to see why North aren’t at shorter odds. NMFC $1.56 / CARLTON $2.44
Carlton have a very strong midfield group and it will be a hard task for master tagger Ben Jacobs to hold off the power of Jamie Cripps, and if Carlton’s defence can hold off Ben Brown and Jarrad Waite, don’t be surprised if Carlton cause an upset here, especially if they can emulate what they did last weekend to the Roos by beating them in contested possessions in the midfield. That said, we feel because North have a majorly hard run coming up in the coming month against top 8 teams from last year, they will really want to win this one to put themselves in a 2-2 situation. We feel it will be a close, tightly contested encounter with lots of action.
