North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Hawthorn Hawks

AFL: 3.20 PM AEST

April 22, 2018

HOME TEAM

Are the Kangaroos in rebuild mode or not? Normally when one thinks of a team rebuilding they think of a team bottoming out for 3-4 years and then rising up the ranks again. The Roos haven’t quite got that bit of the memo down yet and have been looking like a team who believes they can make some noise in regards to making finals. North Melbourne does boast one thing that Hawthorn has traditionally found difficult to contain over the years and that is a contested marking forward line consisting of Ben Brown and Jarrad Waite.

AWAY TEAM

Who will stop Mitchell? Seems to be the latest catchphrase being bandied around the AFL media after his impressive start to the year, but as we saw against Melbourne last week the Hawks midfield isn’t just a one-man band. Jaeger O’Meara seems to be quietly building confidence in his body again, as seen by his 120m dash down the centre of the G last week to outsprint 5 Demons to soccer through a classy goal. On top of this, The Hawks can throw in the likes of Smith, Impey and Shiels through the middle and if the name James Cousins doesn’t mean anything to you yet just watch this space.

ANALYSIS

We need to look at who these teams have faced in their opening 4 rounds and when we do we see quite a disparity in the quality of opposition each has faced. North Melbourne has had wins over a disappointing St.Kilda and wooden spoon favourites Carlton whilst losing to The Suns round 1 and a mediocre Melbourne line up. Clearly, the Hawks have had the tougher schedule only dropping the one game to the reigning premiers, whilst being triumphant over The Magpies, Cats and Demons.

THE ODDS

North Melbourne $2.75 vs Hawthorn $1.47
Over/Under 190.5 @ $1.90
Line Betting +/- 14.5 @ $1.92

OUR VERDICT

This has danger game written all over it for the Hawks as traditionally at Etihad the Roos manage to play a stifling style on their home track against Alistair Clarkson’s men. However, we feel the disparity in opposition these two teams have faced so far in the year have the Hawks playing at a higher level then what North have seen so far.
