Oakland Athletics vs Toronto Blue Jays

The Oakland A’s rallied to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays for the third straight night on Saturday, with a five-run 8th inning to overcome the Jays’ 4-0 lead. Oakland will go for the series sweep on Sunday afternoon at the Rogers Centre.

The pitching matchup for Sunday’s contest will be between two starters with a lot to prove for their respective clubs. Oakland RHP Daniel Mengden (3-4, 3.75 ERA) is trending in the right direction recently, overcoming an 0-2 start with a 6.55 ERA to begin the season to drive his numbers into a respectable area. He earned a no decision in his only career start against Toronto. The Jays, meanwhile, will throw RHP Joe Biagnini (0-2, 7.98 ERA in the majors), who has not tallied a win in any competition, split between AAA and MLB.

Toronto has the look of a team that’s crumbling fast, and their 11-14 home record doesn’t provide much optimism that the Canadian crowd will be a major factor in turning that around. Oakland will no doubt be looking to avenge a four-game sweep at the hands of the Blue Jays in their home ballpark earlier this season, and have a favorable pitching matchup ahead of them to get the job done.
