Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics – Game 2

NBA: 8.30 PM EST

May 03, 2018

Boston defied the spread in Game 1 and dispatched of the Philadelphia 76ers by a count of 117-101 at the TD Garden to open the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The Celtics improved to 5-0 on their home floor during the playoffs, and will look to continue their impressive play in Beantown on Thursday night.

The C’s held Philly to just 5-26 from behind the arc, and managed to shoot 17-35 from that distance themselves in a sizable disparity from three-point distance. Joel Embiid’s 31 points for the Sixers were not enough to overcome the three-headed monster of Al Horford, Jayson Tatum, and Terry Rozier, who tallied 26, 28, and 29 points, respectively.

Philadelphia shot 35 free throws in Monday’s Game 1, which may well have been the most important factor in their tallying 101 points in a losing effort. It’s not likely that the Celtics will shoot with the frequency or efficiency from 3 that they did in the first game, but both teams have been in the top half of postseason clubs in ORTG. Philly will be looking to make a drastic improvement on the offensive end, and will try to impose their tempo (3rd-fastest in the playoffs thus far) to get better shots than in the series opener. I’ll take the over in the hopes that the 76ers will get better looks offensively, and the Celtics will continue to find openings against a defense that didn’t present many issues in Game 1.
