Portland Trail Blazers vs New Orleans Pelicans

NBA: 5:00 PM EST

April 21, 2018

New Orleans continued its unprecedented playoff start with a sound thrashing of the visiting Trailblazers in Game 3, leading y as many as 33 points in the first half on the way to a 17 points victory.

For the third straight game, the Pelicans had a new scorer exceed the 30 point plateau in the series, with sharpshooting forward Nikola Mirotic doing the honors in front of the home New Orleans crowd, joining Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday’s efforts from the games in Oregon. Again, the Pels seemed to play with more energy than the higher-seeded Trailblazers, despite solid scoring nights from Lillard and McCollum (42 of the team’s 102 total points).

This series has been flipped on its head given the Pelicans recent run of play, who, at the outset of the series, seemed to be more likely to be swept than to be in position to eliminate Portland in four games. However, after three straight impressive victories, Vegas is extending the leash further and further to Alvin Gentry’s club, as the line is set at New Orleans -7 for Saturday’s contest.

While they haven’t shown it so far in this series, the Blazers are still the higher seeded team and have the talent on their roster to make this series competitive if they take it one game at a time. If they roll over and come out flat in Game 4, it could be a long night, but seven points is an awful lot of value for a team that finished 3rd in a very strong Western Conference. Give me Portland on the road.
